Vinny's Code of Conduct for Spiritual Healing Work

Vinny has drawn up a code of conduct for spiritual healing work to which he adheres.  The guidelines in this code have been freely borrowed from codes of conduct for various energy healers, spiritual healers, health practitioners, psychotherapists, and alternative healing practitioners, and modified based upon Vinny's own experience, sense of ethics and responsibility.

Code of Conduct and Principles of Practice

General, when working with humans:

This practitioner is not a medical doctor, psychologist, psychotherapist or chiropractor.

This practitioner does not claim to be a licensed health care provider of any sort.

This practitioner does not take any legal or clinical responsibility for the health or welfare or health care of the client.

This work is never offered as a replacement or substitute for conventional medical or behavioral health care treatment, but rather as an ancillary modality.

This work is seen only as discipline which is complementary to any and all accepted medical and alternative practices, rather than claiming to be an alternative to any such practice.

This practitioner does not represent himself/herself as a licensed health care provider, and rather only as a provider of an ancillary, optional service..

The licensed health care providers which a client has engaged are the only entities who are legally and clinically accountable for the health and welfare of the client.

If a client is referred to the spiritual healer by a licensed health care provider, the client and provider must realize that the licensed health care providers which a client has engaged are the only entities who are legally and clinically accountable for the health and welfare of the client.

The practitioner will never prescribe remedies, nutritional supplements, or herbs, unless her/his training and licensing allows such practice.

The spiritual healing practitioner cannot and will not ever recommend or advise against any licensed medical treatment or practice within the context of the relationship with the client

The spiritual healing practitioner does not generate, arrive at, issue or use any medical or psychological diagnoses for or about clients. Indeed, this spiritual healing work is in a realm which totally ignores any and all such diagnoses.  It is assumed that the client, if they have a diagnosable disorder, is already under the care of a licensed health care provider.

The content of all spiritual healing advertising, information and advice will be free  free of claims of cures, testimonials and inferences that the method will yield a cure of any diagnosable health or behavioral condition.

Everything which a spiritual healing practitioner does with a client must be supportive, and supportive of any and all conventional health care measures undertaken by client or their health care providers.  All work must only be supportive of an evolution toward wholeness and ease.

A spiritual healer's behavior must not include any actions that might be construed as sexual harassment, and this is caution is aided by the fact that there is no physical contact between spiritual healer and human client during the session.

Clients will always remain fully clothed during a session, although they are welcome to remove bulky outer clothing such as jackets or sweaters, as needed to make themselves comfortable.

No third party, including apprentices,  assistants or members of the client’s family, may be present during the course of a session with an adult client without the express consent of the client.

Spiritual healers never touch the skin or person of a human client during the session, and never use manipulation, massage, or other forms of direct contact.

For the protection of all parties, the spiritual healer must exercise discretion in sessions with clients who appear to be mentally unstable, addicted to drugs or alcohol, or severely depressed, suicidal or hallucinating.

Spiritual healers will keep clear, simple and dated records of all sessions with clients, including record of any donation or renumeration received.  As with many other ancillary modes of client care, there is no need and no intention to record diagnoses from health care systems.

All information given to spiritual healing practitioner is confidential.  Information will only be disclosed with express consent of the client, or if demanded by a legal authority whom the practitioner believes to have legal right to the information.

Any spiritual healing work done with anyone under the age of 18, will only be done with the approval of parent or guardian, and any and all sessions will take place only when and if a parent or legal guardian is present at every moment.

The spiritual healiing practitioner will visit a client in a hospital, halfway house, or other health care residential or treatment facility, only if specifically invited by the client or a guardian, and only with the permission of the attending primary care physician or attending health care provider.

If a practitioner is asked to visit a client in a hospital, halfway house, or other health care residential or treatment facility, the spiritual practitioner will realize that the facility and licensed providers remain fully responsibile for hte welfare of the client.  Care must be taken by the practitioner not to interfere with procedures or protocols in place at the institution.

General, when working with animals:

This practitioner is not a veterinarian or other licensed animal health care practitioner.  This practitioner does not claim to be a licensed animal health care provider of any sort, and rather only as a provider of an ancillary, optional and fully complementary service.  This service never replaces competent veterinary care from a licensed veterinary practitioner.

This practitioner does not take any legal or clinical responsibility for the care of any animal.

This work is never offered as a replacement or substitute for conventional veterinary animal health care treatment, but rather only as an ancillary modality.

This work is seen only as discipline which is complementary to any and all accepted veterinary and alternative veterinary practices, rather than claiming to be an alternative to any such practice.

The spiritual healer assumes that, if the animal has a serious condition, a veterinarian has been contacted and conducted any necessary diagnoses and recommended any necessary treatments.

The primary veterinarian remains in charge of the welfare of the animal and the spiritual healer will do nothing to interfere with conventional veterinary treatment or medication.

The animal's owner and the licensed veterinary or animal health care providers which a client has engaged are the only entities who are legally and clinically accountable for the health and welfare of the client animal.

If a animal is referred to the spiritual healer by a licensed health care provider, the animal's owner and veterinary provider must realize that the veterinary or animal health care providers which the owner  has engaged are the only entities who are legally and clinically accountable for the health and welfare of the animal.

The practitioner will never prescribe remedies, nutritional supplements, or herbs, for animals unless her/his training and licensing allows such practice..
